Attention, potential guest authors!

Yes, I'm totally into having guest authors here on the blog! Seriously, I may have a suitcase full of stories, but once that suitcase is empty... Well, let's not dwell too much on the empty suitcase. As I said, my sister is going to be the first guest, and I know I have at least one other author lined up.

However, I'm kind of a continuity nazi, and at this point I don't want to jump around too much in the grade levels. So if anyone has anything written in third or fourth grade that they'd like to share, now is the time! But if you have something from later years, feel free to e-mail me about it whenevs: 30isthenew13@gmail.com.

It would be great, of course, if you could type it up and e-mail it to me, but you must swear on a stack of Kirk Cameron–autographed Bibles that you will leave all the spelling and grammatical errors intact. And of course let me know the (at least approximate) year the story was written, the grade you were in, and any other pertinent info.

This is up for discussion, though: Would you want to do your own, uh, "literary analysis"? I will be doing the commenting on my sister's upcoming story, but I might be willing to hand over the snarking reins to someone else for a post. Or—because, admittedly, I might not be able to help myself—maybe we could co-snark? We have options, so let me know what you think.

I'm all about the old school mightybigtv-style co-snark.

Now I really have to find "My Dilemmas as a Babysitter." It really is the magnum opus of my elementary school career. That, or my eighth grade Reading journal in which, after reading Forever, I asked my Reading teacher graphic questions about sex. Poor lady.

I adore your blog! Can't wait to read more. Plus it's good to know there were other girls out there writing truly cheesy and often atrocious stories.

I don't want to think about what will happen when your suitcase is empty. Hopefully that won't be for a long time! This is by far my favorite blog.

I think co-snarking sounds fun. If I can find any more of my stories (my mom said she'd keep an eye out) I'd be interested in being a potential guest author. I think most of my stuff is from 6th-8th grade. I didn't save anything prior to that, that I know of.

We've emailed, so you know I'm up for this. Mine is already typed up, errors intact. When I posted it on my friends-only blog two years ago I didn't add any snark, figuring it all pretty much spoke for itself. But if it wouldn't mess up the flow, I could add some snark, if you wanted.

Mine was written when I was 11 in 1991, so whenever you want to fit me in is fine!

This is so fun!

Thanks for all the blog love, everybody! Warm fuzzies! And don't worry, so far this is only the tip of the embarrassing-writing iceberg.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I should limit the snark, but sometimes it's my favorite part of the blogging. I'm very torn.

Oh man, my step-mom just found my "Creative Writing Booklets" from 3rd and 4th grade!! Tell me what you need hon, I got some good stuff right here! I was a strange child!

I would be ok with self snark, but it would be great for someone else to do it!!

Sada said...

Ooooh! You should read them over and send me the good stuff!

Some of them are better than others. My fourth grade one is mostly journals, but hilarious at that. My third grade one is better, with reports on arachnids, community highlights, cigarettes, and what makes me happy. Awesome stuff! I will email it too you once I can get it typed up.

I wish I could find the Six/En Vogue story or the Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH project I did which included discussions about Caesarean birth. I would even take the poem I wrote about carbon monoxide (spelled nonoxide). Those are prime works.

Sounds amazing. I would have loved to read the carbon nonoxide poetry.

Also, if anyone's brave enough to send a photo of herself (or himself--I think there are maybe four men who read this blog) at the time of authorship, please do!

Uh...perfect timing! My dad just gave me a whole box of old elementary writing!

By the way, I love your blog! It's had me in stitches through many a work day...

I'm so tempted to submit one of my sister's childhood scribblings for snark. Her favorite topic was kidnappings! They practically read like a Law & Order: Special Victims Unit script. A favorite story that stands out in my mind takes place on a school field trip and involves the class nerd being kidnapped by the teacher's boyfriend.
I love your blog, it's comedy gold.

Sada said...

Yes, call your sister! Kidnapping was so chic in the '80s and '90s, wasn't it? Especially kidnapping that didn't lead to, you know, DEATH.

Obie: "He was trained, but he hated the climate." Dear LORD, that is brilliant. Since it was in a separate paragraph as the England reference, I thought it might be the POLITICAL climate or social climate of the CIRCUS...
